Kyo-Kocha – 100% Kyoto Uji Black Tea
Kyo-Kocha is a gentle, mellow Japanese black tea, crafted entirely from tea leaves grown in Kyoto’s renowned Uji region. Soft in texture and low in astringency, it highlights the natural sweetness and refinement that distinguish Japanese black tea from stronger, more tannic black teas produced elsewhere.
Unlike heavily oxidized black teas, Kyo-Kocha offers a clean, elegant profile that feels calm and balanced, making it easy to enjoy throughout the day.
Mellowed Through Slow Aging
Freshly processed black tea can taste sharp or angular. To soften the flavor naturally, each batch of Kyo-Kocha is aged slowly over the summer months.
This natural maturation allows the tea to settle and round out, gently deepening its sweetness while smoothing any rough edges. The result is a relaxed, harmonious cup that invites unhurried enjoyment.
Cultivated With Precision and Purity
Kyo-Kocha is the only black tea produced by Morii Farm, and the only tea harvested during summer — the season traditionally associated with black tea production.
Growing tea without pesticides during summer is particularly demanding, as pest pressure is at its highest. To meet this challenge without compromising their standards, Morii Farm dedicates additional fields specifically for black tea production, harvesting only when conditions allow for stable, high-quality leaves.
The result is a rare Japanese black tea grown with uncompromising care and produced without pesticides, chemical fertilizers, herbicides, livestock manure, artificial sweeteners, colorants, or added flavorings. Its sweetness and color are entirely natural, derived solely from the tea leaves themselves.
From the Heart of the Uji Tea Region
Kyoto’s historic Uji area is one of Japan’s most respected tea-growing regions. The pronounced temperature differences between day and night in its surrounding hills encourage slow leaf development, contributing to teas with depth, natural sweetness, and refined character.
Kyo-Kocha reflects this terroir clearly — expressive yet restrained, with a distinctly Japanese sense of balance.
Varietal Composition
A carefully refined blend of Yabukita and Sayamakaori, two early-ripening cultivars grown 100% on Morii Farm. Together, they create a black tea that is smooth, aromatic, and naturally sweet without heaviness.
