When was the last time you were truly sure about the origin of the food you are tasting? The soil it grew in, the people whose hard work and dedication made it possible for you to enjoy it. When was the last time you could feel that connection directly, simply by touching or tasting it?
If you’ve ever thought about these questions, then we have good news for you. Morii was born from that very urge. Morii exists to bring you the work of fourth-generation farmers who grow some of the finest teas on Earth — thousands of kilometres away, in the land where the sun rises. A place where Mother Earth is generous with sunshine and rain. Pure beauty, without any additives or, let’s call them, chemicals.
Morii is the story of Masa-san (Mr. Morii), his wife Tomo-san, and all the wonderful people around them. Morii is also the story of three Azerbaijanis — Elvin, Majnun, and Farid — who came together to introduce the beautiful teas of this Kyoto farm to the world, being tea lovers themselves.
Morii was conceived on the ninth day of May, during a festive season at the edge of Asia. Elvin is visiting Kyoto with Vita and their small daughter. They attend a local market next to the Heian Shrine. A smiling Japanese woman, carrying the gentle tan of the Land of the Rising Sun, greets them warmly and offers tea for tasting. They instantly fall in love with it and buy several packages, including hojicha.
Back in Estonia, Elvin decides to prepare hojicha at home. He uses a blue Kyusu teapot bought from a small shop in Matsumoto. The aroma rising from the teapot is dazzling. After the first sip, a new love is born. That day, Morii kicks in the belly for the very first time.
Morii is officially born at the end of June. A meeting at the Literaat café in Telliskivi brings two more of Elvin’s friends to the table. They are all tea lovers and have already tasted the precious gem from Mr. Morii’s farm. That day, a connection is formed — between Tallinn and Kyoto, between Mr. Morii and Tomo-san, and their new child: Morii.
But the story does not end here. It is just beginning. It is being written at the very moment you are reading these lines. And if you are drinking our tea, you are now part of this story too.
Welcome to Morii.
